Our Journey

Two Hundred+ Years
of Unbroken Heritage

Few educational institutions in the Indian subcontinent can look back with pride on three hundred years of history — and, what is more important, on a new lease of life after Partition. This is our story.

The Timeline
From Delhi to Karachi — A Chronicle of Perseverance

The Anglo-Arabic College traces its origins to 1792 and the historic college of Ghaziuddin Khan in Delhi. Through centuries of political upheaval, colonial rule, and the trauma of Partition, this institution endured — sustained by the devotion of its old boys and the indomitable spirit of its founding ideals. Today, it flourishes anew in Karachi and Rawalpindi, bearing witness to over three centuries of educational service.

1792
Founding of the College of Ghaziuddin Khan, Delhi
Established outside Ajmeri Gate, Delhi, by Ghaziuddin Khan — son of Khwaja Abid of Samarqand, a nobleman in the Mughal court. The complex comprised a grand hall of red stone with three bulbous domes, a large courtyard, and cubicles for students and teachers, alongside the founder's modest and beautiful memorial.
1820s
Establishment of Delhi College — Anglo-Oriental Education Begins
The British East India Company opened the Anglo-Oriental college in Delhi, teaching Arabic and Persian alongside modern sciences, mathematics, history, and geography — all through the medium of Urdu. This pioneering approach fostered, for the first time, a principled synthesis of Eastern and Western learning.
1835
The Macaulay Minute — A Defining Challenge
A radical shift in educational policy was imposed by the General Committee of Public Instruction under T.B. Macaulay, replacing oriental languages with English-only instruction. The institution rose to meet this challenge, its scholars and alumni defending the cause of Eastern scholarship and the synthesis of cultures.
Mid-1800s – 1930s
The Era of Distinguished Scholars & Alumni
Eminent figures including Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, Maulvi Zakaullah, Maulana Muhammad Hussain Azad, Deputy Nazeer Ahmed, Maulana Altaf Hussain Hali, and Maulvi Ziauddin were associated with the College — scholars who transformed it from an institution into a national intellectual movement, reshaping thought and action across the subcontinent.
1947 – 1949
Partition & Re-establishment in Pakistan
Following the Partition of the subcontinent, the old boys of Anglo-Arabic College laid the foundation of the Old Boys' Association in Pakistan in 1949, carrying forward a heritage of 270 years. Their forerunner organisation had already established a Technical School in Delhi, which was taken over by the Government during the Second World War on account of its exemplary performance in training war technicians.
1959
Formal Registration & Official Recognition
Through the endeavours of Mr. Raziur Rahman, the Association was formally registered under the name "Anglo-Arabic College & Schools Old Boys Association (Pakistan)". In the same year, its charitable donations were granted exemption from Income Tax, affirming its standing as a recognised institution of public benefit.
1963
Land Acquired in Karachi — The Foundation Laid
A parcel of land measuring four acres was purchased in K.D.A. Scheme No. 16, Karachi. The distinguished architect Peerzada Aslam Raza Siddiqui of Messrs. Naqvi & Siddiqui was appointed to prepare the building plans — a proud old boy of the Association whose diligence and devotion in construction work deserved all praise.
19 January 1964
Inaugural Ceremony — A New Chapter Begins
A grand inaugural ceremony was held under the presidency of Justice Qadeeruddin Ahmed, with Dr. I.H. Qureshi, Vice Chancellor of Karachi University, as the chief guest. The foundation was dug by Maulvi Abdul Ghaffar Khairi — the most long-lived old boy, a student of the Alma Mater since 1897 — and the ceremony was performed by the oldest teacher, Mr. Muhammad Hussain Zuberi.
1 July 1965
Formal Teaching Commences
Formal teaching activities commenced for both Primary and Secondary schools under the supervision of C.E. Walker, an ex-Principal of Anglo-Arabic College, Delhi. The campus comprised eight classrooms, a staff room, laboratories for Physics, Chemistry & Biology, an Arts Room, Library, Office, and Committee Rooms. Within a short span of time, all students and teachers were attracted to the Anglo-Arabic College.
Today
Dehli Science & Commerce College, Karimabad
The institution proudly continues its three-hundred-year legacy, serving the youth of Pakistan across campuses in Karachi and Rawalpindi. Offering Science and Commerce streams at Secondary and Higher Secondary levels, it remains steadfast in its founding commitment to academic excellence, human values, and the intellectual enrichment of the nation.

Perhaps there would be few educational institutions in Indo-Pakistan that can look back with pride on three hundred years of history, and, what is more important, to a new lease of life after the partition of the sub-continent. Far from succumbing to the turmoil of the partition, the Anglo-Arabic College and Schools have burgeoned and proliferated in the form of schools and colleges of the same name in Karachi and Rawalpindi — thanks to the efforts of a dedicated group of old boys, and of the Old Boys' Association as a whole.
